Biography


Michaela DeCataldo, CAGS, MA, is an Associate Professor of Psychology and Counseling Psychology and the creator of The Superheroes of Kids Counseling, a heartfelt children’s book series that introduces young readers to the power of mental health support. Each story features a child collaborating with a counselor to face challenges like ADHD, anxiety, and more—unlocking personal strengths that become their superpowers.

Ms. DeCataldo graduated from the Doctoral Program in Humanities with a specialization in holistic counseling, earning her CAGS. She graduated from the master’s program in Counseling and Educational Psychology where she earned her master’s degree.

She has worked as a counselor in both agency settings and private practice, bringing over two decades of clinical and academic experience to her writing. Michaela blends compassion, insight, and a touch of magic in her mission to make mental health topics accessible to children, parents, educators, and therapists alike—using stories to inspire courage and connection. Professor DeCataldo is a trauma and addictions specialist and has developed several university courses in these fields.

She lives with her family and a growing collection of superhero capes and story ideas. Michaela is available for school visits, workshops, and author events.
