Biography


 
For over two decades, Lauren Sarat has provided outstanding editorial services to private and corporate clients across the United States and abroad.  She specializes in grant writing, proofreading, copyediting, developmental editing, and has written her own original fiction, poetry, and nonfiction for a variety of publications. With the help of her coaching and editorial guidance, writers she has worked with have secured literary representation and book contracts with major publishing houses like Penguin USA, Simon and Schuster, and Random House.  Others have seen their life-long writing dreams come to fruition.   
 
As a veteran of the publishing industry, Lauren Sarat worked as an assistant editor at Picador USA/St. Martin’s Press, and with the literary agency, Sobel Weber Associates. Prior to working in publishing, she was a bookseller in traditional stores like Three Lives & Co. in New York City, and also worked as a freelance features editor with barnesandnoble.com.
 
Since leaving Manhattan in 2001, Lauren taught creative nonfiction and fiction workshops at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.  She also taught creative writing at Rhode Island College, University of Connecticut, and Rutgers University.   She founded and facilitates a original workshop series entitled “Generating the Goods,” which blends meditation and writing.  Lauren is always studying unique ways to increase creativity and build upon the strengths of each writer she works with.
